Reflection Three - Presentations

Image
As a future educator, it is vital that I am capable of catering the learning material to all forms of learners. The use of presentations in the classroom are a great way to ensure that all students are being accommodated for. Google Slides is the most recent presentations platform that I have interacted with. Google Slides is a power point creation platform that allows one to insert images, text, gifs and videos into a presentation. Presentations allow an educator to engage their students while providing learning material integrated into a variety of forms that Google Slides caters for. I have had very little experience with Google Slides despite its popularity. I have interacted with Google Slides once or twice during my time in high school, but predominately opted for Microsoft Power Point due to more experience with that particular platform. I found Google Slides extremely easy to navigate, I particularly found the customise-able templates for the slides very useful, these are extre...

Reflection Two - Digital Media

Image
During my time as a student, I witnessed the beginning of the evolution of the contemporary classroom. My teacher would incorporate images videos and diagrams into presentations to engage the ever evolving. This digit media that is utilised by teachers is constantly improving the learning outcomes in our classrooms today. For example, in classrooms in 2023 we see; video clips, social media posts, news articles and even virtual reality set ups. This blog will narrow down to video clips, in particular, Youtube.  Youtube is an online platform where people from across the globe can post and share videos with each other to their own privacy digression. The platform also allows users to post lice streams, like, comment and share others videos. Youtube is very diverse, if you can think of a topic or a tutorial I am almost certain that theres a video for it. On top of that, Youtube is extremely user friendly with additions such as age restriction and parent controls. Youtu...

Reflection One - Web Spaces

Image
Prior to enrolling in the  Digital Pedagogies in Secondary Schools’ unit, in terms of pedagogy I would have considered myself to be accustomed to a more traditional approach to learning. Traditional consisting of basic and fundamental classrooms resources and pedagogical techniques. Alongside this approach, the idea that while technology within the classroom is advantageous at times, it is inevitably a distraction to a students learning. As this unit continues to unfold over the coming weeks, my viewpoint of digital pedagogies has already shifted. After only three weeks of this unit I have come to understand the importance and effectiveness of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) resources and content. As the world we live is an ever evolving digital world, it is essential that the classroom is not left behind. It is extremely important that classrooms and learning environments are integrating appropriate ICT resources and content into students learn...

LEGAL, SAFE, AND ETHICAL PRACTICE

Legal, safe and ethical practice and what it means for you What are the dimensions of legal, safe and ethical practice outlined in the Australian Curriculum: ICT as a General Capability? To recognise intellectual property. To apply digital information. To apply personal security protocols. To Identify the impacts of ICT in society. What will you need to consider in your curriculum learning areas? Most importantly I will need to consider the safety of my students online. I will need to consider that my students are responsibly using ICT's e.g. activity respectfully towards themselves and others online. I will ensure that my students clearly understand the importance of referencing information that is not of their own property. Finally, I will keep an open mind to both the negative and positive effects that ICT's in the classroom have on my students.

The SAMR Model

SAMR Drawing it all together Write a reflection that draws together Blooms Taxonomy, your understanding of ICT pedagogy and the SAMR model as it relates to your teaching context.  Rather than think about what you have experienced in schools, try to take an aspirational position on this reflection. Examine not what currently exists, but what is possible. This will become the foundation of your own pedagogical framework which will later be mapped against a learning design. As a future secondary schooling educator, I aspire to create a comfortable environment in which students can actively learn and expand their knowledge. I believe it is important that in this space students are able to work independently while still feeling supported as well as clearly understanding how the skills learnt in a classroom will correlate into the real world. As a result of Blooms Taxonomy and the critical steps of higher-order thinking, I aspire for students to confidently practice their problem ...

Reflecting on higher order thinking

Reflecting on higher order thinking Secondary discipline areas are often content-laden. Use Robyn Collins Curriculum and Leadership as a foundation, and consider the Australian Curriculum in your selected junior discipline area. Identify the process/research/inquiry skills that are required. They are skills that, according to Collins, are best developed through application to real-life contexts. Use the Aims, rationale and structure of the curriculum to uncover the global approaches of importance, as well as the content. My two discipline areas as a studying teacher are Biology and Health and Physical Education. Both areas, Biology in particular, require research, investigating, hypotheses and understanding all factors which draw a conclusion. Biology incorporates a variety of skills that are utilised in everyday lives and workplaces. Collin states to the idea that these skills such as researching and processing are best developed through everyday life, therefore, seamlessly inte...

Q and A (Week 2)

Pedagogical Principles What are the Pedagogical Principles (defined in the Learning Materials)? 1) Facilitating deep knowledge through higher-order thinking. 2)Facilitating collaborative learning in which conversations are important. 3) Supporting students in knowing how they learn best. 4) Planning learning that is problem-based, and situated in real-life contexts. 5) Is relevant to students, and connects to their background knowledge. 6) Supports learning that is owned, controlled and managed by students themselves. 7) Is socially supportive, engaging, and values cultural knowledge 8) Is supportive of the development of active citizenship, and strong group identity. What do the Pedagogocial Principles mean to you in common language? I believe that Pedagogical Principles are an effective scaffold and guide for teachers to subscribe to. This scaffold creates an efficient and suitable learning environment allowing students to absorb the content taught within lessons. I also believ...
