You as a contemporary teacher?
To what extent is it reasonable to conclude that if you are not experiencing positive or negative emotions about the materials and activities in any learning experience, that you are potentially disinterested or not motivated? Discuss in relation to your first emotional response to the nature of this unit.
It is accurate to state that one can experience positive or negative emotions towards content and materials within a learning experience. For example, this particular unit. Upon first glance of the unit overview and assessments, I was immediately disinterested as the core learning material and content strayed away from what I was both interested and familiar with. However, in contrast there have been units in which I am intrinsically motivated by interest around the topic.
Elaborate on your emotions on engaging further with this unit? Positive, negative. Indifferent?
After returning to the routine of university, I have slowly become less anxious towards this particular unit. I still have lingering doubt surrounding the work load and my experience with technology. However, as the weeks progress I feel more motivated and interested in completing and expanding my knowledge on the subject and work towards the assessments.
To what extent do you have the commitment to actively interrogate your emotions, and your beliefs about creative pedagogy (that extends beyond the mere delivery of information to your learners)? How might you be challenged to engage as you enter this unit?
I am heavily committed to providing my students with appropriate and up to date pedagogy and learning strategies. This will result in my students actively and effectively learning while enjoying their experience in their classroom. I am moulded and influenced by my own previous learning experiences as a student. As a result I can identify how beneficial and important various forms of ICT's can be in a students learning. I believe that this could present a challenge however, as I am use to being the student or the consumer when interacting with ICT's in the classroom. In contrast, this time around I will be the facilitator in the classroom which will inevitably result in change and adaptation on my part.
Identify your present values and beliefs about ICT in the classroom. Keep it brief and focused.
I believe that ICT's are near essential within the classroom. However, there will always be a time and pave for ICT's as they can become quite a distraction in the classroom. I also believe that it is essential that ICT's are teacher controlled to aid in students being engaged and on task. In this current generation I find it clear that learners and youth engage far better with the use of ICT's and it would be wasted if not used appropriately within current classrooms.
Your approach to teaching and learning
My approach to teaching and learning is one that is very straight forward and simple. I believe that what is learnt in the classroom should be able to be applied into real world context. I believe that this improves a students motivation when learning, as they can clearly see when the content will be used later in life. I also believe that is vital that the students enjoy learning and engaging in the classroom. However, the content and learning material being understood by the student is the main priority as an educator.
Identify any challenges to your current values and beliefs as you enter this unit?
Approaching this unit, my current belief is that technology is essential for students within the classroom. I do not believe that I will face any challenges that will go against pre determine beliefs or values.
What experience do you have with ICT in the classroom?
I currently only have positive experiences with ICT's as a student. From memory, the access to youtube, the internet and many more useful ICT's have only aided my performance in the classroom. I also subscribe to the idea that this will continue to be the case for current and future students. However, from experience with new forms of technology often comes complexity, which I have seen become a barrier for students around me.
Hi Baylin, I think a lot of us can agree about being a bit unsure about beginning this unit but you've done a great job with your blog writing and layout - it's super easy to read and understand! I also personally like and relate to your approach to teaching and learning.
